Award Criteria

The Bob Hawke Landcare Award acknowledges an individual’s leadership and commitment to landcare, natural resource management and sustainable agriculture. The award nomination is open to an individual who champions the uptake of sustainable agriculture practices and can demonstrate the adoption of improved practises among landholders as a consequence of this action. They will be closely involved in landcare, and can demonstrate an outstanding commitment to local communities and drive community activity for the benefit of the environment and landcare.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must be actively involved in landcare, natural resource management and sustainable agriculture. Nominees will be required to provide three references as part of their application, including a reference from a NRM/CMA or industry body. Nominees will be required to describe in 300 words or less, how they would use the $50,000 grant money to champion landcare and share knowledge about sustainable agriculture practices with others including landholders, farmers and communities.

All award nominations will be assessed by an independent advisory panel, including representatives who have experience in sustainable farming practices, natural resource management, community and Indigenous perspectives. Following is the criteria for the 2022 Bob Hawke Landcare Award:

Actively involved in landcare.

Shows a remarkable commitment to caring for the land.

Has an outstanding commitment to local communities and drives community activity for the benefit of the environment and landcare.

Inspires, educates and encourages others to take action on their own properties or through a landcare group.

Champions the uptake of more sustainable agricultural practices and can demonstrate the adoption of improved practices among landholders as a consequence of this action.

Actively pursues, introduces and shapes innovative farming systems to improve productivity, profitability, sustainability, and the quality of our natural resources.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award, you must:

  • be an individual
  • not be a group or organisation
  • be an Australian citizen
  • be actively involved in landcare, natural resource management and sustainable agriculture
  • have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to natural resource management and sustainable agriculture.
